IoMT(Internet of Medical Things): Revolution in the Healthcare

IoMT is the Internet-connected medical devices, infrastructure hardware & digital applications used to connect healthcare IT. This is a patient-centric approach enabling patients to transfer medical data easily, helping to reduce medical visits. The current global market of IoMT is around $22 billion and is growing with a CAGR of 25%, expected around $72 billion. There are several reasons for the increase in IoMT like Increased patient engagement, Choose Home-care Act, shortage of medical staff, accurate diagnosis, remote monitoring of chronic diseases, improve drug management, and reduces the cost of care.

IoMT has not been restricted to wearable/plantable devices, but this will include implantable devices ( like smart pacemakers, smart pills) as well. One of the important questions with respect to how we integrate these IoMT devices, these are the core methods to do the same:

  • SDK’s ( Software development kit)
  • Protocol document / GATT profile ( General Attribute profile)
  • Health Cloud API’s like Validic & health frameworks ( Apple & Google)
  • IOT based ethernet boxes.

Following are the different kinds of platforms that are increasing with IoMT:

  • Chronic patient management/self-care management ( smart Belts)
  • Holistic wellness /corporate wellness/ gamification
  • Femtech apps ( Ovulation-period tracking and fetal health tracking)
  • Elderly care/ fall detection
  • Screening, diagnosis, and treatment ( ECG )
  • Child monitoring wearable ( smartSocks – owletcare)
  • Caregivers performance tracking using Beacons

Following are different devices we have integrated
Health Devices:

  • Stethoscope- EKO core
  • Weight Scale- A&D weighing scale
  • Blood Pressure -A&D / Omron
  • Thermometer- A&D thermometer
  • Fora Thermometer (ear & skin)
  • Haemoglobin- hemocue
  • Glucose- hemocue glucose/accu check
  • Lung function test- Spiromagic spirometer
  • SPO2 (Blood oxygen saturation)- noninconnect pulse oximeter
  • Camera Lenses – otoscope, dermoscope, nasoscope, endoscope, ophthalmoscope
  • IHealth
