The leadership team of smartData was set up in 2005 to include senior members of the team to support the CEO in driving the organisation. It was originally called Manthan and Vimarsh and later renamed Basecamp, to represent its role as the central place where fundamental plans and decisions are formulated before they are executed.
Basecamp is made up of individuals from diverse departments, handpicked by the CEO based on performance, trustworthiness, and alignment with the vision of the firm. They are involved in shaping the vision of the company, both in operational management and strategy planning.
Basecamp membership is reviewed constantly. It depends on the individual's contribution and continued relevance to the group's purpose. Basecamp has a smaller subgroup named Advance Basecamp, which holds a meeting with the board of once or twice a year. This includes some of the elder members and two rotating seats. In 2018, there were 30 Basecamp members invited to Mauritius as appreciation for their hard work after accomplishing a specific target.
In 2018, there was the establishment of smart Data Leadership Group (SLG) to support the development of future leaders. SLG is composed of staff working in all areas who are vetted as future leaders. They are offered avenues to learn about different company operations and to participate in real work so that they may gain skills needed to carry out higher responsibilities.
SLG and Basecamp members get involved in reviews, meetings, and retreats throughout the year. There is a yearly leadership meet to get an opportunity to look back on what has been accomplished and map out what remains ahead.
